This wonderful species is one of the more drought tolerant milkweed species. Seeds for these milkweed are wild collected from roadsides around Stillwater, OK.It is a host plant for monarch, and queen butterflies as well as cycnia moth caterpillars. Though it is not a favored host because of tough leaves and while I have found caterpillars and eggs on this species it is fairly uncommon compared to other native milkweeds. The blooms are an excellent nectar resource for native bees although they don’t provide pollen.
